Two Local Cancer Charities Team Up for Football Fundraiser

Bowel Cancer Guernsey and Business Beats Cancer are hoping to raise vital funds and awareness of their causes when they join forces to host the inaugural Victoria Park Charity Football Tournament on Sunday 21 September.
Open to all, islanders are invited to ‘Kick for a Cause’ by signing up 7-a-side teams for the first event of its kind at Guernsey’s new home of football. As part of their entry fee, each team will receive a charity t-shirt in their team colours, with all match-day proceeds from the day going directly to the two charities.
In addition to all the competitive action on the main pitch, Victoria Park’s training ground will provide family-friendly activities for children of all ages, including an inflatable football pitch, Bowel Cancer Guernsey’s inflatable bowel, ‘Throw the Poo’ game and kids’ kickabout.
Food and refreshments, including healthy options, will be provided by Nutmeg, and there will be a tuck shop in the plaza, with all proceeds benefiting the two charities.

Anne Brouard, Chairperson at Bowel Cancer Guernsey, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting the first ever charity tournament at Victoria Park. Being active to stay healthy is one of our key charity messages, so it’s a perfect fit. We’re also looking forward to welcoming some of our younger islanders to enjoy the games and activities taking place on the outer areas - it should be a brilliant day for all the family!”
Neale Jehan, from Business Beats Cancer, said: “We’ve been keen to host a fundraiser like this for a while, so it’s great to be teaming up with Bowel Cancer Guernsey for this inaugural charity tournament. Our charities are both committed to raising awareness and funds for the same cause so, if we can do that by uniting islanders for some healthy competition, it’s a win-win.”
