Santa Sixes Kicks off the Festive Celebrations in Style!
Sunday’s first-ever Santa Sixes tournament at Victoria Park saw over 200 young players pack the park for a day of festive footy fun!
The bumper day of football action saw twenty-six teams across six age groups competing, including two girls’ teams, with fifty 12-minute matches played out on four pitches at Guernsey’s home of football.
Each team had chosen a festive name, with Jingle Ballers, Paris Saint Sleigh-Main, Santa Strikers and Elf-letico Madrid among the favourites, while many had also commissioned dazzling custom-designed seasonal strips to mark the occasion.
While football was the ultimate winner, the spirit of the season shone brightest! Awards for ‘Fair Play’ and 'Best Celebration' brought cheers, with special shout-outs to 'The Salmon' for a truly unique display and a gravity-defying WWE wrestling move that was a true crowd-pleaser. A show-stopping overhead bicycle kick marked a moment of pure brilliance that even impressed Guernsey FC's own Charlton Gauvain, snagging the 'Best Goal' prize!
In addition to witnessing a frenzy of goals, family and friends cheering from the sidelines were also treated to festive mulled wine and mince pies from Nutmeg, while the Guernsey FC tuck shop was also on hand to keep hunger at bay.
Hayley Vance, Events Co-ordinator at Victoria Park, said: “The day was all we could have hoped for and more – it really kick-started the Christmas festivities here at Victoria Park.
“It was so lovely to see all of the children truly entering into the spirit of the day, and we particularly enjoyed hearing the imaginative names the teams came up with and seeing the festive kits in action. Hopefully, this marks the first of many more tournaments ahead in 2026, bringing young footballers together to enjoy an afternoon of friendly football with their mates.”
