Premier League and Barclays WSL Trophies Set for Landmark Visit to Guernsey
Football fans across Guernsey are set for a rare and exciting opportunity this month as the iconic Premier League and Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL) trophies arrive on the island for a special two-day visit, thanks to Barclays, a founding partner of Victoria Park.
The Premier League has grown into the most-watched football league in the world, followed by billions of fans across more than 200 countries. Renowned for its intensity, international superstars and fierce rivalry, the league represents the pinnacle of English football, making the visit of its trophy to Guernsey a truly special occasion for the island’s sporting community.
The Barclays WSL is the highest level of professional women’s football in England, showcasing some of the world’s top talent and fastest-growing clubs. Since its launch in 2011, the league has expanded in both competitiveness and global visibility, attracting international stars and record-breaking attendances.
On Friday 29 May, members of the public will be able to view the trophy at the Barclays branch on St Julian’s Avenue from 10:00 am, providing a rare opportunity to witness a piece of football history first-hand.
The celebrations will continue on Saturday 30 May at Victoria Park, where the trophies will take centre stage at a youth 6-a-side football tournament. The free event, running from 9:30am to 4:00pm, will welcome club teams from across the island, creating an inclusive and memorable experience for young players, coaches, and families to engage with these iconic symbols of the sport.
Organisers hope the visit will inspire the next generation of local footballers while bringing the community together to celebrate the beautiful game.
Justine Gaudion, Guernsey Country Head of Local Markets, Barclays Bank PLC, said: “Barclays has enjoyed a long and successful partnership with the Premier League and Women’s Super League, and we’re delighted to be bringing football’s most coveted silverware to Guernsey. We hope the visit will inspire a new generation of young islanders to enjoy the many benefits of football, and we look forward to delivering this once-in-a-lifetime experience for the local community.”
Rob Jones, Director at Victoria Park, said: “This landmark event promises to be a highlight of Guernsey’s sporting calendar, and we’re thrilled to be supporting Barclays, one of our founding partners, in delivering this fantastic initiative. As the home of Guernsey football, we can’t wait to host Saturday’s tournament while providing a unique chance for fans of all ages to grab their own small slice of football history.”
