Footy Fans Pack the Park to Celebrate Victoria Park's First Anniversary
Big crowds, an emphatic win and significant funds raised for local charities proved the perfect way to celebrate Victoria Park’s first anniversary at the weekend.
Guernsey FC’s men’s team kicked off the celebrations in style on Saturday with a dominant 6-0 victory over Peacehaven & Telscombe. Playing in front of a delighted home crowd of over 1,500 supporters, including local schoolchildren and mascot competition winners, the win set the tone for a fantastic weekend of football.
The celebrations continued on Sunday, with over 30 junior teams welcomed through the gates for a series of friendly fixtures organised by the Guernsey FA and supported by the stadium’s Community Partner, Sure by Beyon. A Girls’ Community Football Festival kick-started the morning’s festivities, followed by a Victoria Park 4v4 Football Tournament for Year 5 and Year 6 players in the afternoon.

The weekend also delivered strong support for local causes. Nearly £500 was raised for Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association, Victoria Park’s Charity Partner, through donations and proceeds from Guernsey FC’s 50/50 draw. In addition, the matchday Easter charity raffle raised over £165 for Guernsey Motor Neurone, while the evening’s raffle in aid of Goal50 generated over £170 for the cause.
Nick Graham, Victoria Park Steering Committee Chair, said: “It’s incredible to think of how much we’ve achieved in the space of a year – our expectations have been well and truly exceeded. Victoria Park has quickly become a place for the whole community, and we felt it only fitting to organise a weekend that brought everyone together, from our Green Lions and their loyal fans to the grassroots players of tomorrow.
“We are so grateful for the support of our sponsors, dedication of our volunteers, and the continued enthusiasm of Guernsey’s football fans and we hope these anniversary celebrations proved testament to our gratitude.”
