Aztec Group Clinches Victoria Park Charity Shield Win!

Sunday’s first ever Victoria Park Charity Shield was nothing short of a football spectacle. In a gripping final, Aztec Group’s very own Aztekkers triumphed, taking home the coveted trophy after a heart-stopping battle against Swoffers.
The inaugural tournament saw 18 teams brave the elements (and occasional rogue rainclouds!) to ‘Kick for a Cause’ and raise funds and awareness for two incredible local causes: Bowel Cancer Guernsey and Business Beats Cancer.
Over the course of 48 intense twelve-minute matches across three groups, the players delivered an electrifying 99 goals in a truly net-busting performance!
With their sights set on the trophy, Aztekkers made a solid statement in the semi-finals, sailing through with a comfortable 2-0 victory over The Guernsey Therapy Group, while Swoffers found themselves locked in a fierce battle with KPMG. After a goalless draw, it was all about penalties – and Swoffers didn’t flinch, knocking it out of the park with a nail-biting 3-1 win.
The final had the crowd on the edge of their seats with a goalless first-half before Aztekkers played their Joker card – and what a card it was! A penalty shot sealed the deal, with Swoffers unable to find an equaliser before the final whistle blew.
Off the pitch, spectators were treated to family-friendly entertainment thanks to Bowel Cancer Guernsey’s inflatable bowel, a skipping challenge, and fan-favourite ‘Throw the Poo’. The festivities weren’t just fun and games – food and refreshments, including healthy options, were provided by Nutmeg, who kindly donated 10% of all takings to the fundraising pot.
A huge round of applause to all the teams, sponsors, and organisations who helped make the tournament such a success - see you all again next year!
